Memorial Services for Mr. Mike Carney, 68, of Kilgore will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at Grace Fellowship Church with Pastor Brian Nutt officiating. Mike passed away on June 8, 2016 in Kilgore. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
Mike was born on June 12, 1947 in Arlington, Texas. He was the son of the late Howard Ryan Carney and Loraine Gail Dooley Carney. Mike was a retired employee of the National Park Service, where he worked for 40 years. During his career with the park service he wore many hats. He was a Park Ranger, Trail Supervisor, Aviation Rescue Manager and Backcountry Carpenter and loved all of his challenging and exciting jobs. He was the recipient in 1990 of the Secretary’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Aviation Safety from The Department of the Interior. He received the Sixth United States Army Certificate of Appreciation for Exceptional Support and Coordination in conduction Military Helicopter Operations in 1994; and the Meritorious Service Award from Boeing Defense and Space Group for aiding in the June 1997 rescue of 2 stranded climbers on top of Mount Rainier in Washington State. Mike was much loved and respected in both the military and mountain climbing communities. Mike loved his career with the National Park Service at Mount Rainier, he also equally loved his job and coworkers and friends in his “new career “ at Kilgore Wal-Mart. He had the biggest and most generous heart of anybody and enjoyed helping people in any way he could.
Mike is survived by his wife, Debra Carney of Kilgore; daughter, Prairie Dawn Carney of Eatonville, Washington; brother, Jody Glazner of Weches, Texas
